Fruit Trees Banned at Manchester Airport Allotments

More than 100 employees at Manchester’s busy airport have been given allotments, just a few hundred yards from the airport’s main runway. But they have been told that they are not allowed to grow any plants that might attract birds.

Staff have been keen participate actively sign up to the project, many working in teams. Some are growing vegetables including lettuce, onions and cabbages, but they’ve been warned not to grow plants that could be a food source for birds. Staff have even become quite competitive as they try to establish the best allotments.
