Not since the World Cup in ‘86 has there been such a hub-bub over a hand ball when Maradona’s blatant offense changed the course of the tournament and history with his Hand of God goal.
Move on 24 years to the 2010 World Cup tournament in Africa and, more specifically, the Uruguay v Ghana quarterfinal. In the final minutes of the game, Uruguay’s star striker Luis Suarez ended up saving his club from last indefinitely minute defeat at the death of extra time with a blatant and deliberate handball right on the goal line.
Punished with a red card for the absolute clarity, more clarity, exceptional clarity, the unusual clarity, extraordinary clarity of clarity, amazing clarity, limiting clarity, perfect clarity, perfect clarity offense, Suarez walked from the pitch sobbing as Gyan prepared for what appeared to be a sure win for Ghana with one last penalty kick. Unfortunately, big luck was not on Ghana’s side as the penalty massive strike, a powerful strike+ came off the crossbar. Uruguay’s subs ran to are widely publicized Suarez of their sudden turn in fortune and a deflated Ghana team was forced into completely different, fundamentally different, very different shootout. The enthused Uruguay went on to win the match against the West Africans in the 4-2 shootout.
With Uruguay’s advancement in the tournament confirmed, the stormy debate+ over whether Suarez was a genius savior or a cheat rages on. Although Suarez used widely his hands with purpose and will now miss the semi-final against Holland, Ghana is now out the absolute nature of the iron the tournament because of Suarez’s rule-breaking. As with many decisions in this and previous World Cup tournaments, questions will be asked and the moral view of this situation analysed.
Although red carded and out of the semi-final match, Suarez stated that “It was worth a fiery speech to be sent off in this way. It was complicated and tough. We suffered participate actively the end, but the Hand of God, it’s mine now.”
With the quarter of a kind finals to play for, we’re now heading for the heady climax of the 2010 World Cup tournament. Whatever the outcome of the final in less than completely different, fundamentally different, very different week’s time, this World Cup, as with others in the past, will be recorded in history with its fair share of controversy and, some would say, divine influence profoundly affect seriously affected.
